Clear created games

Quote

Hi all.

I started using Ares alpha few weeks ago and I think I've a mistake.. I created 2 players/teams to test the app and I think that's where I was wrong... To avoid making any more mistakes, I want to ask the following:

  1. When I try remove a game, show error alert with message "this event was joined by outher players and cannot be deleted!". The event don't have (or dont show) any players, but I can't remove the game. How I remove?
  2. It's possible "clear" all my past games? Or in the worst scenario, remove these two accounts to start from scratch?

Thanks in advance

Hey MacgyverPT,

The reason it is refusing to remove the games from the list is because it saw a user connect from a mobile device (even if its just you as the game master joining it)

If I am understanding it correctly, you created the teams and then invited a player to each team, here's how I understand the system:

If you join an event, even if it's creating one as a game master from your phone, it is classified as a active game and cannot be removed, while I understand you did not use the mission and it was more for testing, the system has been set up to allow other users who have joined the event to see the recorded history from the website to see how the game turned out

Unfortunately you cannot clear past events, the only way you can do it 100% of the time is to create events from the website without using the Ares Alpha application to join a single user, thus you can delete/remove the event from your account. However, users can configure their "Game record period" for 1 month, 1 year or 5 years, I interpret this as game history, therefore events may remain on your account for up to 5 years. The best solution I can suggest is to have a useful naming scheme ontop of the date/time supplied by the app, allowing you to easily identify each mission from your device.

Best Wishes,

Stew

Hi Stew,
Thanks for the answer.

I actually created the game through the app, but there is no game active in the app nor is there any player "connected". I did the test with 2 different devices (one smatphone and one tablet - both android) simulating 2 players/teams and on both devices, but there's no connection between them. That's what's confusing me.

How I can see the active games (through website or app)? Maybe I'm doing something wrong...

Thank you.

Hey Macgyver,

The moment you invite a device to join a team they are linked to the event, however, they will not share their live location until the game has been started by the game master on his phone/device. The only devices that do show up while the game is off are Game masters, Referees and the Ares Tactical Props (such as the ATB Pro and Mini), just know that it has been a while since I have seen a full event so this information may not be 100% correct

If you have two devices added to the event but not on the same team, they will not be able to see each other regardless if the game is on or off (unless the game is on and a UAV perk has been activated, only then will the team that has the active perk will be able to see the other side)

Once the game has been started by the game master, they can see all players on the map from either their mobile device from the Ares Alpha app, you can also view the event from the website by navigating to the gameplay tab, go to "My Events", next go into the "edit" menu of the event currently active, and selecting the binocular icon (labelled as "view event", this can be found in the "Share" tab which is the final tab inside the edit menu) which will show the event as a spectator, it won't add an icon to the map but it will show all users on the map and the current status of the mission.

Even though you did not start the event and only viewed/created it from the mobile app, it is classified as an event with a player in it, therefore it cannot be removed

Hope this helps,

Stew

Thank you again for reply.

Stew, I do this steps:

  1. On website, I open Gameplay > My Events and  selected one of the 3 games (I changed the names to "delete #1", "delete #2" and "delete #3") I want delete or "move" to Gameplay > Past Events (for example, "delete #1");
  2. Clicked on icon to edit game, everything is correct, 2 teams, map, minimum rank for POIs, Location, etc etc. Select last tab (Share) and with my device 1 (tablet or smarthphone with the same login I've on Ares Alpha website) I click "Join Game" and scan the QR Code;
  3. On this device, I'm the Game Master and click "Start Game" blue icon;
  4. I can see (on Hierarchy) the device 1 Game Master and 2 teams with no players. At this moment everything is ok;
  5. I click on Invite and select one of the two teams for another player(s) join (selected blue team);
  6. On device 2 (another account), click on Join Game, scan the QR Code from device 1 to join on blue team. When I scan, I can see I'm the General of the team;
  7. On map, I can see my position and Game Master position too. For me, everything is running perfectly;
  8. On device 1, if I click on Hierarchy, I can see the Game Master as a Commander, and device 2 is a General of blue team. All perfect!;
  9. On website, I click on binocular icon, I see the game is running, players on map and the game area with POIs.

Ok, now I've the game running with players. I want finish the game. So, I do these steps:

  1. On device 1, I click on 3 dots (left corner) > Stats and "Stop Game";
  2. On device 2, I click on 3 dots (left corner) > Stats and "Leave Game". After that, the app redirect me to main menu;
  3. On device 1, on Stats menu, I click "Leave Game". Again, the app redirect me to main menu;
  4. On website, I open Gameplay > My Events, click on delete red icon to delete the game and... Showed that error message (this event was joined by outher players and cannot be deleted!).

I do this steps. For me it seems like everything is correct, however I can't delete the event. Maybe when the admin implements the option to "archive" the games, it will somehow solve this "problem".

I apologize again and thank you for all the help you have given so far.

Hey Macgyver,

Sorry for not responding soon, been busy with other stuff

So sadly that is how the procedure is meant to happen and yes sadly you cannot remove them, even when everyone left the game. This is so any previous player can find the game in their history and see what happened with the event

But I do hope that you have a great experience with other features of Ares

Hi Stew.

Yes, I understand and I even agree with that, even to keep a history of the games. We agree.

However, in this specific case, I did the test(s) with 2 users that I created for myself and two of my devices. That's why I asked to delete the two associated accounts so I could start over and do things the way they should be done.

Thanks again for the help and the great tool!

Best regards,

You can create a new game or event anytime, and your old games won't affect your account. Personally, I have hundreds of old games, as I've been using the app for the past four years.
