Player tags feedback/bugs
Quote from Acobol on April 20, 2025, 3:36 pmHey guys,
happy easter to y'all! Today I'm trying out the new player tags and here's my feedback/some bugs found:
- Collect Tags (bug?): Player Tags can be used unlimited times to collect tags. Please limit this, RFID Tags also can be used just once. I think that's a kind of a bug. Maybe include the option to deactivate the use of player tags in this gamemode, so people really have to search tags instead of having some points for free with their player tags.
- Domination bug: mixing RFID and player tags causes some issues. Player 1 (blue) captured the point with his personal tag. When scanning a red RFID tag now, points in total counting for red now but when switching display pages with A pressed once to this highscore-list, points are still counting for player 1 (blue).
- Highscore-list without binding it to a player in app/web. E.g. in domination mode, pressing A once the display shows a highscore list with all the players that scanned their tags. This is working with player tags that are personal tags but also with mass written tags. Nice! But in the app just points from personal tags are displayed. We're doing lots of daily round-based events so it would be nice to hand out 30 player tags without having to create 30 accounts before.
- Maybe also include points generated from RFID Tags with a "player" called "RFID Tags" (domination, factory/depot)
- More a kind of a question: How are RFID an player tags handled in different events? For example, playing factory and depot on saturday event, some RFID tags are still loaded with points. For sunday event I'll create a separate event in AresAlpha App - do I have to unload all the points first before handing it all out? Same with player tags? That would be a whole lot of work. But I think the data (points) is stored on the chips, so there is no option to kind of reset the tags, isn't it?
- Writing player tags. This is possible even for players with rank "soldier" isn't it? Maybe it would be useful to limit this, cause players could modify their tags on field.

Thank you very much for the detailed feedback!
Agreed — Player Tags should behave the same way as Team Tags, meaning they shouldn't be used multiple times to collect points for a team. We'll investigate this and include a fix in an upcoming update.
Same here — we’ll look into it and address it in the next release.
Unfortunately, it's not really feasible to display Player Points from Player Tags programmed in mass write mode. The app only works with actual user accounts — for many technical reasons. 🙂 That said, you're free to set up 30 reusable accounts for fast games.
Same explanation as above — Team Tags don’t have a real player account behind them, so any points go only to the team, not individual players.
As you mentioned, points are loaded onto the tags. There's no remote magic to reset them — they need to be manually reset/unloaded.
Yes, anyone can write to Player Tags. But what’s the benefit of rewriting them on the field? Jumping to another team doesn’t really offer any advantage - or we miss something?

6. Yes, you're right, no advantage there. I was just thinking about some inappropiate names some people may give themselves. To prevent this, it would be a nice option for a GM to activate/deactivate this. But I have another question to add:
Is it a bug that player tags are not working with the (old) miniboxes? Or is it because they're no more produced?

You're right—Player Tags are designed to work exclusively with ATB PRO/Mini and Minibox PRO.
