While preparing for this, we noticed a few points that could cause practical limitations during real game days, which we would like to address in advance.

At the moment, the flow requires a Game Master to create a game and assign one General per team. Only these Generals are able to generate QR codes, which players then use to join a team. While this works in theory, it assumes that a General is always available for each team. In everyday operations at Area-M, this is often not the case. Generals may arrive late, change between rounds, or intentionally not be used at all. Despite this, the Game Master still needs to be able to assign players to teams quickly and flexibly, without being blocked by the absence of a General.

For this reason, it would be very helpful if the Game Master could generate QR codes for Team Red and Team Blue independently of whether a General already exists. Players should be able to join a team as regular soldiers using these codes. The General role can still provide additional permissions and coordination features, but it should not be a technical requirement for basic team joining.

Another practical issue concerns the handling of QR codes themselves. Currently, QR codes can only be opened as a link that leads to an external page. For use directly on the field, it would be much more practical if generated QR codes could be saved locally as images on the phone, for example via a button like “Save to gallery”. This would allow quick access to the QR code and make it usable offline, which is far more reliable during events.

Additionally, a feature that allows the Game Master to select players directly on the map and change their team color would be very useful. At Area-M, we typically run multiple rounds per day, often four or more. Between these rounds, team balancing is essential, as player numbers change and one team can otherwise become significantly larger than the other. Allowing the Game Master to switch a player’s team directly, without requiring the player to rejoin or scan a new QR code, would greatly simplify balancing and speed up the start of new rounds.

Overall, these points would significantly increase the practical usability of the Ares Alpha app for larger fields like Area-M and better reflect real-world game operations. We would be interested to know whether these features are already planned, or if there are technical or conceptual reasons why they are currently not possible.

Thank you in advance for your feedback.

Cancel
