Android (surf) tablet. Which Android build requiered?

Hey friends!
We're going out in field during MERCS here in Sweden in a few weeks with the AA as tool. But I am going to buy an older used Android surf tablet to run it on, not a phone.
So not to buy TOO old tablet, what level of Android build is demanded?
